Class Description
Community gardens are springing up everywhere and folks new to vegetable gardening are trying to learn numerous skills. MGs need to know how to support Community Gardeners' efforts -- both by understanding the community gardening process and rules, and by advising and demonstrating best management practices in the garden.
This training incorporates two practicum activities and two panel discussions. The practicums will be held in the Sheridan Street Community Garden and the Field of Greens Community Garden.
Panel #1 will cover community garden rules and regulations, funding, startup, policies, identifying partners, infrastructure, fencing, and design.
Panel #2 will cover weed identification, IPM, pests, rodents, food safety, garden safety, pesticides, soil testing, organic policies, and composting.
In order to facilitate learning, registrants will be asked to specify particular questions that they would like answered during the two panel discussions. Registrants of the class will have the opportunity to submit their questions on the Eventbrite class registration form.
This class will count as 7 hours of continuing education and also towards the Advanced Vegetable Gardening Certificate
